Your Recording Guide

Everything you need to know before we record

A woman in a calm, focused setting

The Basics

How the recording works

The recording takes place on Riverside. No account needed — just click the link Alex sent at the agreed time and you are straight in.

Riverside records your audio and video locally, which means the quality stays sharp even if your connection dips. You do not need to do anything differently — just show up and the technology takes care of itself.

Your Setup

Four things that make all the difference

You do not need a professional studio. A few small adjustments will make your recording feel calm, clear, and polished.

☀️

Lighting

Natural light works best. Sit facing a window if you can. If you are recording in the evening or away from natural light, a lamp placed in front of you does the job. The one thing to avoid is a bright light or window behind you — it will put you in shadow.

🎙️

Audio

A quiet room matters more than anything else. Close the door, put your phone on silent, and shut down any browser tabs likely to make noise. Your laptop microphone is fine. A headset or USB microphone will improve quality if you have one — but it is not a requirement.

Camera

Your laptop camera is all you need. Position it at roughly eye level if you can — a few books under the laptop works well. Looking slightly down into the camera tends to feel less natural on screen.

Background

A tidy or plain background keeps the focus on the conversation. It does not need to be perfect. A bookshelf, a neutral wall, or a tidy corner all work beautifully.

On the Day

A quick check before you click the link

Run through these in the few minutes before you join. It takes less than two minutes and means you can start the conversation feeling settled.

  • Face a window or place a light in front of you
  • Find a quiet room and close the door
  • Phone on silent
  • Laptop plugged in or well charged
  • Glass of water nearby
  • Open Riverside a few minutes early to check your camera and audio

The Conversation

There is no script

Nicole's style is relaxed and curious. There is no script and no performance expected. Follow the thread and let the conversation go where it goes — the best interviews happen when they feel like a real exchange rather than a presentation.

If there are areas you would rather not cover, let Alex know before the session and Nicole will respect that completely.

Your Work

We will make space for you

Towards the end of the conversation Nicole will invite you to share what you are working on and where people can find you. If you sent Alex links to your books, courses, or platforms as part of your guest form, Nicole will have those ready and will reference them naturally during the conversation.

Any questions?
